The pitching matchup today has Wade Miley (3-7, 5.20 ERA) on the mound for Baltimore to face Adalberto Mejia (4-3, 4.32) of the Twins. Mejia is in a nice stretch, as he has allowed just five earned runs over his last four starts, a total of 22.1 innings. On the year he has 48 strikeouts with 29 walks and a 1.51 WHIP. Miley has struggled lately and is coming off his worst outing of the season. He allowed seven runs over 1.2 innings against the Brewers. He has allowed 29 earned runs over his last six starts, a total of 22.1 innings. He has 76 strikeouts and 48 walks this season to go with a 1.73 WHIP.
The Twins have won the first two games in this series, picking up a 6-4 win on Thursday and a 9-6 win on Friday. Minnesota has won all five meetings with the Orioles this season. The Twins are now 45-41 overall and 20-26 at home while Baltimore is 40-46 overall and 15-30 on the road.
Friday’s game saw the Twins come back from a 6-0 deficit to pick up the win. Felix Jorge allowed the six runs in just 2.2 innings, but then his bullpen pitched 6.1 scoreless innings. Kennys Vargas and Eddie Rosario each had three hits to lead the Twins while Chris Gimenez drove in a pair of runs. The Orioles were led by Manny Machado, who had two home runs, four hits and four RBI.
There’s just nothing to like about the Orioles today. They have struggled mightily on the road all season, have yet to beat the Twins this season and have a pitcher that has been awful lately on the mound. Mejia has shown a lot of improvement on the mound over his latest starts and he should be able to carry the momentum that Minnesota has built in the first two games of this series.
