Can the Rockies upset the Royals in KC? MLB Predictions 8/22/17

Rockies vs. Royals Pick

Will the Colorado Rockies go on the road and hand the Kansas City Royals a loss when the two meet up tonight at 8:15PM ET?

According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Kansas City is favored at home, as the Royals are getting odds of -130 to win. The Rockies are getting a money line of +120 to win, while the over/under total has been set at 8.5 runs. These two have not met since the 2014 season.

The pitching matchup for tonight has Jon Gray (5-2, 4.74 ERA) on the mound for the Rockies to face Danny Duffy (7-8, 3.82) of the Royals. Gray has allowed multiple runs in eight of his last nine starts. He has 60 strikeouts with 20 walks and a 1.48 WHIP. Duffy has given up a total of 16 runs over his last three starts. He has 109 strikeouts on the season with 33 walks and a 1.28 WHIP.

The Rockies are coming off a pair of losses to the Brewers at home. They have lost seven of their last 10 games. Colorado is 68-56 overall and 30-31 on the road. The Rockies are averaging 5.23 runs per game this season while allowing 4.82 per contest. Colorado is being led by Nolan Arenado, who has 38 doubles with 27 home runs and 105 RBI. Charlie Blackmon is adding 27 doubles, 29 home runs and 78 RBI.

Kansas City has split its last 10 games, but is coming off a series loss to the Indians. The Royals are now 62-61 on the season and 33-29 at home. Kansas City is scoring 4.46 runs per game while the Royals are allowing 4.69 runs per contest. The Royals are being led by Eric Hosmer, who has 23 doubles with 20 home runs and 68 RBI. Mike Moustakas is adding 35 home runs and 77 RBI.

Bet on Rockies vs. Royals

Both pitchers are struggling right now, especially Duffy. Duffy was once considered a top-level pitcher this season, but he is really in a funk. That doesn’t bode well against a Colorado team that can pound the ball. Kansas City just doesn’t have that same offensive capability. If their pitching fails them, they aren’t likely to win. For that reason, I like the Rockies in a small upset.
