Angels vs. Twins Pick
How will the Los Angeles Angels fare when they head to the Midwest to face the Minnesota Twins tonight at 8:10PM ET?
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, the Twins are favored at home, as they are getting odds of -120 in today’s series opener. The Angels are listed with odds of +100 to prevail, while the over/under total for the game has been set at 10 runs. These two have met four times this year, with the Twins winning three of the four games.

The pitching matchup tonight has Alex Meyer (3-4, 3.74 ERA) on the mound for the Angels to face Adalberto Mejia (3-3, 4.38) of the Twins. Meyer has been largely good over the last few weeks. He has not allowed an earned run in three of his last five starts. Still, he doesn’t get deep into games. He has 62 strikeouts and 37 walks over 55.1 innings with a 1.41 WHIP. Mejia has back-to-back scoreless starts, lasting 10.2 innings. He has 43 strikeouts and 28 walks on the year with a 1.52 WHIP.
The Angels have lost three of their last four games, including two of three to the Mariners this past weekend. Los Angeles is 43-43 overall and 20-14 on the road. The Angels are averaging 4.20 runs per game while allowing 4.29 per game. Leading the Angels has been Albert Pujols, who has 11 home runs and 52 RBI. Andrelton Simmons is adding 18 doubles, 36 RBI and nine home runs.
Minnesota has lost four of five but returning home after a long road trip. The Twins are now 41-40 overall and 16-25 at home. Minnesota is putting up 4.53 runs per game this season while allowing 5.26. Miguel Sano is leading the team with 20 home runs and 58 RBI while Joe Mauer has 17 doubles with 31 RBI.
This is an interesting matchup as both teams are struggling coming in and both have pitchers on the mound that are on an upswing despite not getting deep into games. Los Angeles has done much better than I expected without Mike Trout around, but I still like the Twins. Minnesota is coming off a long road trip and should be eager to get back at home. Even though it has struggled at home this year, I think Mejia will continue to build off his back-to-back scoreless starts and lead his team to the win.
