The pitching matchup for tonight’s contest has Adalberto Mejia (1-3, 5.53 ERA) on the mound for Minnesota to face Trevor Bauer (6-5, 5.54) of the Indians. Bauer is coming off one of his best outings this season, allowing just two runs over seven innings with eight strikeouts. His WHIP on the season is 1.43 and he has 89 strikeouts with 30 walks. Mejia has struggled, not getting deep into games and allowing multiple runs. He has allowed 25 earned runs over 40.2 innings of work. He has 36 strikeouts with 22 walks and a 1.60 WHIP.
Cleveland comes into this weekend pretty hot. They have won eight of their last nine games and just picked up a series win at Baltimore. The Indians are 39-32 overall and 24-15 on the road. Cleveland is putting up 4.81 runs per game while allowing just 4.06. Cleveland is led by Edwin Encarnacion, who has 17 home runs and 40 RBI. Jose Ramirez is adding 23 doubles, 11 home runs and 34 RBI.
Minnesota is struggling. While they won a series over the White Sox, they are just 2-5 in their last seven games. The Twins are now 36-34 overall and 16-25 at home. Minnesota is putting up 4.71 runs per game while allowing 5.29 per contest. The Twins are being led by Miguel Sano, who has 18 home runs and 52 RBI. Brian Dozier is adding 12 homers and 32 RBI.
Neither pitcher has been doing well this season, but Bauer has the better lineup to support him and the better bullpen behind them. Cleveland has been hitting the ball quite well over the last week and that should definitely continue against Mejia. Minnesota has struggled to score and allowed plenty of runs. I don’t think the Twins will correct their issues tonight in Cleveland.
