Can the Yankees split with the Indians? MLB Predictions 8/6/17

Yankees vs. Indians Pick

Will the New York Yankees manage to salvage a split with the Cleveland Indians when the two close out their weekend series today at 1:10PM ET?

According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, the Indians are favored in tonight’s game, as they are getting odds of -120 to win, while the Yankees are getting a money line of +100 to prevail. The over/under total for the contest has been listed at 8 runs.

The pitching matchup in this game has Luis Severino (8-4, 2.98 ERA) on the mound for New York to face Carlos Carrasco (10-4, 3.89) of the Indians. Severino has been rolling along in recent weeks, allowing just two earned runs over his last four starts, a total of 26 innings. He has 153 strikeouts and 35 walks this season with a 1.10 WHIP. Carrasco has given up multiple runs in his last five starts, including five in just 1.2 innings against the Red Sox earlier this week. He has 136 strikeouts with 34 walks this season and a 1.15 WHIP.

Cleveland picked up the first two games in this series, winning 5-1 on Thursday night and 7-2 on Friday night. New York bounced back on Saturday with a 2-1 win to set up the potential split. New York is now 58-51 overall and 26-31 on the road while the Indians are 59-49 overall and 30-25 at home.

Saturday saw a tremendous pitching battle between the two staffs. Danny Salazar went seven innings and allowed just one run with 12 strikeouts for Cleveland. Jordan Montgomery allowed one run over five innings with seven strikeouts for New York. Neither got a decision. The Yankees’ bullpen pitched four scoreless innings to secure the win while Cleveland’s allowed one over two innings. Chase Headley had a solo home run in the eighth to lift New York to the win. Didi Gregorius had a RBI double in the first for New York as well. Cleveland’s lone run came on a Carlos Santana solo home run in the second inning.

Bet on Yankees vs. Indians

Severino has been locked in lately and I like the momentum for him going into today’s game. The Yankees won with pitching on Saturday and could do that again today. However, Carrasco has been giving up runs lately, so New York may be able to give Severino plenty of run support to work with. The key will be for Severino to get deep enough into the game since New York had to use a lot of arms on Saturday.
