Chicago Cubs Fantasy Spin

Daniel Descalso went 3-for-5 with a three-run homer Friday against the Brewers. Descalso was making his third of the season; he’s been in the lineup against three of the four righties the Cubs have faced and none of the three lefties. He’ll likely keep playing against righties while he’s hot, which should be bad news for Albert Almora. Descalso is off to an 8-for-16 start.

Milwaukee Brewers Fantasy Spin

Orlando Arcia went 3-for-3 with a two-run homer, a walk and three runs scored Friday in the Brewers’ 13-10 win over the Cubs. The Cubs scored five runs between the eighth and ninth innings, but it wasn’t enough on a night in which Ryan Braun, Hernan Perez, Yasmani Grandal, Arcia and Eric Thames all homered for the Brewers. Arcia’s homer was his second already. He hit 15 in 2017, but he finished with just three in 119 games last season. It’d be great for the Brewers if Arcia could get back to where he was offensively, but unless he makes his way out of the eighth spot in the lineup, he probably won’t be worth using in mixed leagues.

MLB Betting Trends

Chicago

The Cubs are now 0-4 in Cole Hamels’ last four starts and are winless in his last four road outings as well.

Milwaukee

The Brewers have now beaten the Cubs in four of the previous five meetings between the division rivals and are 5-1 in their last six games versus Chicago at Miller Park.

Prediction:

There’s plenty of risk in fading Cole Hamels, who was excellent for the Cubs last year after they acquired him from Texas. That said, nobody on this Chicago pitching staff is pitching well. While the game started off well for Hamels, he struggled in his season debut versus his former team. Delino DeShields hit a grand slam off Hamels, who issued three walks while allowing five earned runs over five innings. Even if he rebounds tonight, the Cubs’ bullpen has been an utter mess to start the year. As of this writing, the Brewers’ team total is listed at over/under 4.5 runs for +105. Given how hot Milwaukee’s lineup has been and how awful Chicago pitching has been to start the year, the over is absolutely worth a play tonight.

The Pick: Milwaukee Brewers Team Total OVER 4.5 (+105)
