Reds’ Harvey pounded by Rockies in last start
Matt Harvey allowed nine hits and four runs over 5 1/3 innings in a loss to the Rockies on Sunday. Harvey ran into trouble out of the gate, giving up a solo homer to David Dahl before surrendering a two-out, two-run shot to Carlos Gonzalez. He settled down after that, giving up hits but no runs before the Rox got to him for one more in the sixth. The outing was his worst as a member of the Reds — he’d allowed just four runs in his first 14 innings combined — and perhaps some of that can be chalked up to Coors Field, but his 5.63 ERA and 1.42 WHIP on the year tell the story of a guy still searching for some consistency.
Padres’ Lauer shelled for five runs by Marlins
Eric Lauer was shelled for five earned runs over just 2 1/3 innings Monday in a loss to the Marlins. Lauer issued two walks and surrendered seven hits — most of them coming in Miami’s four-run first inning. The rookie left-hander now has a 7.67 ERA and 2.08 WHIP over his first 29 1/3 major league innings. He might do well with a little more minor league seasoning.
MLB Betting Trends
Cincinnati
The Reds are 4-9 in their last 13 games played at Petco Park but they’re 4-1 in their last five games versus the Padres overall.
San Diego
The Padres are 6-2 in their last eight games coming off a loss but are winless in Lauer’s last four starts.
Prediction:
These are two light-hitting teams playing in a pitcher’s park but I can’t take the under given the pitching matchup. Both pitchers were in horrible form last time out and the over is a perfect 5-0 the last five times these two teams met. Hopefully, it’ll be 6-0 by the end of the night because I’m taking the over.
The Pick: Reds/Padres over 8.5
