Colorado Rockies Fantasy Spin
Raimel Tapia went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run and two runs scored in the Rockies’ 10-7 win over the Padres on Sunday. A left-handed hitter, Tapia has showed an impressive ability to hit lefties to this point and was in the lineup against a lefty again Sunday with Padres southpaw Nick Margevicius on the mound. True to form, Tapia showed well, notching a pair of hits against Margevicius and swatting a two-run homer, staying with a slider and serving it to left-center field, against lefty reliever Brad Wieck in the seventh inning. The 25-year-old is now hitting a strong .313/.352/.626 with five homers, 18 RBI and 11 runs scored in 37 games this year. Playing regularly for a good Rockies club, Tapia shouldn’t be unowned in fantasy leagues.
Boston Red Sox Fantasy Spin
J.D. Martinez went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a two-run home run and three runs scored in Sunday’s 11-2 win over the Mariners. Martinez kicked off the Red Sox’s scoring via a solo home run in the first inning and capped it off with a two-run dinger in the eighth inning. The All-Star slugger is now up to seven big flies for the season, to go with 24 RBI. While he has yet to settle into a true power groove — maybe Sunday was the start of one — he hasn’t been pressing, either, hitting .313/.393/.507 overall through 39 games played. Martinez has clocked 40-plus home runs each of the last two seasons. He figures to be in that range once more when all is said and done at the end of the year.
MLB Betting Trends
Colorado
The total has gone over in five of the Rockies’ last five games when playing the Red Sox and is 9-1 in their last 10 games overall.
Boston
The Red Sox have won five straight games at home, both on the moneyline and against the spread.
Prediction:
Sale is back to his normal form and is now sitting on a 3.31 xFIp, a 30.3% strikeout rate and a 5.9% walk rate, which are all outstanding. While navigating the Rockies’ lineup can be tricky given the power, Sale should fare well tonight. Meanwhile, while the left-handers in Boston’s lineup could struggle, the right-handers should light up Colorado starter Kyle Freeland. Right-handers have an ISO of 0.227 against Freeland this year and are only striking out 16.3% of the time. Martinez, Mookie Betts and Xander Bogaerts all hit from the right side and should do plenty of damage against Freeland tonight.
The Pick: Boston Red Sox -1.5 (-130)
