Diamondbacks trade for Braves’ Miller
After signing Zack Greinke to a massive contract last week, the Diamondbacks have a deal in place to acquire fellow starter Shelby Miller from the Braves.
FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal reports that the Diamondbacks will acquire Miller pending a review of the pitcher’s medical records. Arizona will also get Gabe Speier, while the Braves will receive Ender Inciarte, Aaron Blair and Dansby Swanson in return.
It’s quite a haul for Atlanta, which continues its building project this offseason. The Braves also traded shortstop Andrelton Simmons to the Angels in exchange for Erick Aybar, Sean Newcomb and Chris Ellis last month. Miller posted a career-low 3.02 ERA for the Braves last season.
ESPN.com reported that the Diamondbacks were closing in on a deal with free agent right-hander Mike Leake but Jerry Crasnick reported that Arizona’s interest in Leake ended with the acquisition of Miller.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Mybookie.ag, the Diamondbacks remain 25/1 to win the 2016 World Series. Those are the same odds they had after signing Greinke so an update might be forthcoming.
