How many games will the A’s win in 2017? MLB Win Total Picks 2/21/17

A’s Season Win Total Prediction

How many games will the Oakland A’s win this upcoming MLB season?

Earlier this month the Atlantis Sportsbook in Las Vegas became the first oddsmaker to post win totals for the 2017 MLB season. The team with the lowest win total was the San Diego Padres at 64.5. The team with the second-lowest win total? That would be the Athletics at 66.5.

At some point the A’s core will feature Sean Manaea, Jharel Cotton and Ryon Healy but for now, they’ll need decent first-half performances out of Sonny Gray, Stephen Vogt, Ryan Madson and Khris Davis so that GM Billy Beane can continue to re-stock the farm system. Either way, this is going to be a very young team, with potentially two rookies starting in its rotation.

That’s not to suggest that Beane sat on his hands this winter, however. The front office shelled out a combined $33 million to sign Rajai Davis, Matt Joyce, Trevor Plouffe and former Giants closer Santiago Casilla. The Plouffe signing was significant because it’ll keep prospects Joey Wendle, Chad Pinder, Renato Nunez and Matt Chapman from being rushed into action.

OUR SEASON PREDICTION: Even though this team is likely to sink to the bottom of the American League West, I think the Atlantis total is too low on the A’s. The starting rotation has some upside, with Gray, Manae, Cotton, Kendall Graveman and Andrew Triggs expected to earn the five spots. With a youth movement brewing, the A’s could win 68-70 games while cashing the over for bettors. This club isn’t as hopeless as the Padres are heading into the new season.
