The Padres won’t post a star-studded lineup in 2017. They’re a young club that has some potential but this upcoming season could be rough. They lost veteran centerfielder Jon Jay and starting pitcher Tyson Ross this offseason, and most of their regulars this season will be first-year starters.
The club’s most recent signing was veteran Jered Weaver, who joins a rotation that also features Jhoulys Chacin, Clayton Richard, Trevor Cahill and Christian Friedrich. Weaver posted a 5.06 ERA in 31 starts last season, while Friedrich finished with a 4.80 ERA in 24 games. Richard was limited, but posted decent numbers, while Cahill wasn’t even a starting pitcher last season. In 50 games with the Cubs, he posted a 2.74 ERA and a 1.279 WHIP.

The offense does have some sporadic talent. After two average seasons with the Rays and one with the Padres, Wil Myers has found himself in San Diego. He hit 28 home runs with 94 RBI and hit .259 in 157 games last season while also stealing 28 bases. Ryan Schimpf struggled to hit for average but posted great power numbers, while Yangervis Solarte hit .286 with 15 home runs while driving in 71 runs.
OUR PREDICTION: The Padres have no pitching, which is one of the reasons why Vegas is so low on their win potential in 2017. This could very well be the worst club in baseball this season.
2017 MLB WIN TOTAL PREDICTION: UNDER 64.5 GAMES
