Trout hits monster opposite field homer
Los Angeles superstar center fielder Mike Trout made his presence known in New York with an opposite field home run that reached the second deck Friday night. It was his 16th home run of the season. The blast off Luis Severino tied the score at 1-1, but it was all the Angels would get in a 2-1 loss. Trout also walked twice in the game. Kole Calhoun helped lead LA as he finished the contest 2-for-3, while Justin Upton was 1-for-2 with a pair of walks. Jim Johnson took the loss in relief.
Torres keeps raking
New York rookie second baseman Gleyber Torres continued his fantastic start to his MLB career Friday night as he hit what turned out to be a game-winning home run in the bottom of the seventh inning. It was already Torres’ ninth home run since being called up. He is batting .333 with a .393 on-base percentage and a .646 slugging percentage. Shortstop Didi Gregorius scored the other run, which was also driven in by Torres on a single. Chad Green picked up the win in relief.
The Angels will go with Jaime Barria (3-1, 2.13 ERA, while the Yanks counter with Sonny Gray (3-3, 5.48 ERA).
MLB Betting Trends
Los Angeles
The Angels are 16-5 in their last 21 road games. Los Angeles is 8-20 in the last 28 meetings.
New York
The Yankees are 39-12 in their last 51 home games. New York is 24-9 in its last 33 Saturday games.
Prediction:
Barria has been a great addition to the Angels staff so far and is pitching with plenty of confidence. Meanwhile, Gray appears to be turning a corner and figuring it out on the mound again. Pitching dominated Game 1 and I believe that will continue today.
