Angels split with Astros
Los Angeles is coming off a four-game split at home with the Houston Astros. The Angeles had a five-game win streak established, but have lost their last two games. L.A. is 50-48 overall, 23-25 on the road and 46-45 with the under. The Angels have Jaime Barria getting the start tonight. He is 3-2 on the season with a 5.22 ERA.
The Angels are strong at the plate, posting 5.15 runs per game while hitting .261 as a team. On the mound, Los Angeles has a 4.89 team ERA with a 1.36 WHIP. Mike Trout is leading the team with 21 doubles, 30 home runs and 75 RBI. Kole Calhoun is adding 16 doubles, 21 home runs and 50 RBI.
Mariners tanking
Seattle seems to be in full tank mode right now as they have lost six straight, getting outscored 13-54 over the six games against the Angels and Athletics. Seattle is now 39-60 on the season, 19-29 at home and 62-33 with the over. The Mariners have Mike Leake getting the start tonight. He is 7-8 on the season with a 4.60 ERA.
The Mariners average 4.93 runs per game at the plate, but that number is inflated through their time with Edwin Encarnacion, who is now with New York. They hit .241 as a team. On the mound, the Mariners have a 5.36 team ERA with a 1.45 team WHIP. Domingo Santana is leading the team right now with 19 doubles, 19 home runs and 64 RBI. Daniel Vogelbach is adding 11 doubles, 21 home runs and 51 RBI.
MLB Betting Trends
Los Angeles
The Angels have won six straight series openers and five of their last seven AL West division games.
Seattle
The Mariners are just 1-4 in their last five home games and have lost five straight against a right-handed starter.
Prediction:
The Mariners don’t have a great outlook right now and Leake has been pretty shaky as of late. He gave up seven runs in 0.2 innings to the Angels in his last start and has allowed at least four runs in three of his last four starts. Barria has just three starts this year, but he has been pretty solid on the mound. Outside of one awful outing against the Royals, he has given up just one run in four of his seven appearances. I think he can pitch well enough to hold down this Seattle lineup while the Angels beat up Leake.
MLB Prediction: Los Angeles Angels -135
