Dodgers fall in series finale
Los Angeles lost by a count of 5-1 in their home series finale Sunday night against the Yankees. Joc Pederson provided the only offense for the Dodgers as he finished 1-for-3 with a solo home run. Max Muncy went 1-for-3 with a double and a walk. Austin Barnes was 1-for-3 with a double. Clayton Kershaw took the loss as he surrendered three earned runs on four hits with 12 strikeouts and no walks over seven innings. Dustin May draws the start tonight for LA as he enters with a 1-2 record, 4.26 ERA and 1.21 WHIP with 15 strikeouts over 19 innings of work.
Padres snap four-game skid
San Diego won 3-1 Sunday afternoon at home versus Boston to improve to 60-69 overall and 30-35 at home. Manny Machado was 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk and two RBIs to pace the Padres offensively. Manuel Margot was 2-for-3 with a two doubles, a walk and a run scored. Francisco Mejia finished 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Joey Lucchesi notched the win as he allowed one earned run on three hits with three strikeouts and two walks over five innings of work. Eric Lauer will take the mound tonight for San Diego as he comes in with a 6-8 record, 4.47 ERA and 1.40 WHIP with 98 strikeouts over 118 2/3 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Los Angeles
The Dodgers are 78-38 in their last 116 games overall. Los Angeles is 55-23 in its last 78 games versus the NL West.
San Diego
The Padres are 2-5 in their last seven home games. San Diego is 5-2 in the last seven Lauer home starts.
Prediction:
Los Angeles was shaky in its last series, a possible World Series preview with the Yankees, but it has also had San Diego’s number a lot this season. The Padres had aspirations of going neck-and-neck with LA this season and it hasn’t exactly worked out that way. The Dodgers have plenty of lefty mashers to get after Lauer, while May is equipped with swing-and miss stuff. I like the Dodgers to get a series-opening win here.
