Marlins offense falters in opener

Miami suffered a 3-0 loss Friday night at Colorado to drop to 45-76 overall and 20-37 on the road. Brian Anderson led the Marlins offense as he finished 2-for-4, while Neil Walker was 1-for-4 with a triple. Curtis Granderson went 1-for-1 as a pinch-hitter. Sandy Alcantara suffered the loss as he allowed two earned runs on three hits over seven innings, striking out two and walking four. Hector Noesi gets the start tonight as he enters with an 0-2 record. 8.18 ERA and 1.36 WHIP with 11 strikeouts over 11 innings pitched.

Gray tosses a gem

Jon Gray threw eight shutout innings Friday night to lead host Colorado to a 3-0 victory over Miami. Gray allowed five hits with seven strikeouts and no walks to pick up the win in the dominant effort. Scott Oberg gave up one hit with one strikeout and no walks to notch the save. Ryan McMahon helped pace the offense as he finished 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Nolan Arenado ended the game 1-for-3 with a solo homer and a walk. Trevor Story and Yonder Alonso each ended the game 1-for-3 plus a walk. German Marquez draws the start as he comes in with an 11-5 record, 4.75 ERA and 1.19 WHIP with 163 strikeouts over 163 innings pitched.

MLB Betting Trends

Miami

The Marlins are 1-4 in their last five games overall. Miami is 25-63 in its last 88 road games.

Colorado

The Rockies are 4-17 in their last 21 Saturday games. Colorado is 8-3 in the last 11 Marquez home starts.

Prediction:

Marquez has been in good form lately and his numbers would look a lot better if you could throw out an 11-run disaster at Coors Field a month ago against the Giants. With Noesi an also-ran starting pitcher, the Rockies should score their fair amount of runs. But I also see Miami’s offense struggling enough again that it keeps the total under the high number. Rather than put a wager on a bloated Colorado line, I’d rather go after the under in this spot.
