Will Mets or Marlins bounce back tonight?
?
Two National League East combatants finding themselves in unexpectedly dire straits will vie for early redemption at 7:10 p.m. ET.
After dropping two of three to Philadelphia over the weekend, the Mets tussle with the Marlins this evening. Oddsmakers at online sports book Bovada.lv give the host team odds of -160 to come out on top.
Even with ace Matt Harvey on the mound, New York absorbed a 5-2 defeat on Sunday. Terry Collins’ lineup came up empty yet again, managed a mere four hits against Jeremy Hellickson and the Phillies. The Mets have a grand total of 14 runs scored and a .180 batting average through five contests.
Miami can’t exactly attest to superior results, either. Don Mattingly’s bunch just lost 4-2 in Washington to split a two-game set after Saturday’s postponement on account of cold weather. Slugger extraordinaire Giancarlo Stanton is off to a .294 start at the plate, but would-be sources of protection such as Justin Bour, Marcell Ozuna and J.T. Realmuto continue to languish below the .270 mark.

Tonight’s mound matchup will be an interesting one to monitor. New York rolls with much-ballyhooed lefty prospect Steven Matz, who struck out 47 over 50 1/3 innings in 2015. Righty Jarred Cosart carries a little more experience on the Miami side, although the upside factor doesn’t jump off the page in the same fashion.
Matz hasn’t thrown since April 2, when he mowed down the Cubs to conclude his Grapefruit League regimen. It’s easy to envision early command issues for the southpaw, and the Mets aren’t smashing the cowhide at present. Lean toward Stanton’s squad here.
