Brewers’ Chacin pitches seven strong innings in win over Braves

Jhoulys Chacin allowed two runs on three hits over seven innings in a win over the Braves on Thursday. Chacin was even more dominant than his final line indicated, as the Braves plated both of their runs in the first three batters of the game before the right-hander shut them down from there on. Chacin walked just one and struck out seven before exiting. The win improved him to 7-3 overall, lowering his ERA and WHIP to 3.63 and 1.29 WHIP, respectively. A meeting with the Marlins on Tuesday offers another welcoming turn for the right-hander, who is a deeper mixed league option when he’s going like this.

Marlins’ Lopez allows five runs vs. Nationals

Pablo Lopez allowed five runs over five innings in a no-decision Thursday against the Nationals. Lopez was staked to a nine-run lead through three-and-a-half innings of play and blanked the Nats through three frames, but a Trea Turner solo homer in the fourth got the Washington club on the board. They followed that up with a four-run fifth inning that spelled the end of the day for Lopez, but he still left with a comfortable lead and in line for his second win in as many MLB starts. Instead, he settled for a no-decision while watching his ERA balloon to 5.73. Things don’t get any easier for the 22-year-old his next time out, when the Marlins face the NL Central-leading Brewers.
