Seattle shoots to stifle Milwaukee again
With a 14-5 record in August, the Mariners suddenly sit just one game behind Baltimore in the AL wild-card race. Milwaukee, well, simply wants to flip the page to 2017.
Scott Servais’ squad shoots to hand the Brewers another interleague walloping this afternoon, with a 4:10 p.m. ET first pitch at Safeco Field. Handicappers at online sports book Bovada.lv lean toward the M’s, while Craig Counsell’s troops enter as +163 underdogs. The over/under run total comes in at nine.
Last night’s 8-2 triumph vs. Milwaukee was Seattle’s 12th win in 15 games. Servais hopes that Ariel Miranda, making his third MLB start, can sustain the momentum in several hours. The 27-year-old lefty arrived from Baltimore at the trade deadline.
On the other side, Counsell leans on Matt Garza. One of the few veterans remaining on a team that’s clearly prioritizing the future, Garza has snared three victories in his last four outings. The righty missed the first 2 ½ months of the season with a strained lat muscle.

The Brewers are in the midst of a six-game losing streak. What’s more, they’ve dropped seven straight on the road dating to Aug. 8. But Garza’s recent work, coupled with Miranda’s questionable ability venture deep into the proceedings, makes us side with the woebegone Brew Crew for once.
