Yankees aspire to steal one from Blue Jays
Mired in an eight-game losing streak at Rogers Centre, do the Yankees have enough wherewithal to salvage their series finale vs. the Blue Jays?
The two squads meet again tonight, with a 7:07 p.m. ET first pitch in the Great White North. Oddsmakers at online sports book Bovada.lv like the hosts to keep zooming toward an American League wild-card spot. New York, on the other hand, enters the contest as a +185 underdog.
Joe Girardi’s crew pulled ahead in the ninth inning of yesterday’s contest, 3-2, only to squander that lead and ultimately drop its fourth in a row. Luis Severino tries to halt the slide this evening, even though he’s posted an 8.58 ERA as a starter in 2016. Interestingly, the former top prospect boasts a 3-0 mark with a 0.39 ERA in 11 appearances as a reliever.
Toronto counters with J.A. Happ, who targets his fourth straight triumph. The lefty’s 3-0 with a 2.65 ERA since Sept. 10. He’ll face the Bronx Bombers for the fourth time.

While the Blue Jays appear to be rounding into form, they’re still just 10-12 on the month. Considering the presence of Baltimore, not to mention Detroit, in the rear-view mirror, John Gibbons’ squad cannot afford to take this finale for granted. Expect a thoroughly engaged squad for nine innings.
