Bumgarner looks to get Giants back on track
The Giants have dropped seven of their past eight contests against San Diego. With Madison Bumgarner on the bump tonight, will the visitors’ fortunes change?
San Francisco’s star lefty targets his 100th career victory beginning at 8:40 p.m. ET. According to oddsmakers at online sports book Bovada.lv, Bruce Bochy bunch represents a 1.5-run favorite at Petco Park. The host Padres, on the other, are considered +200 underdogs.
After claiming a 2-1 victory in the series opener, the Giants absorbed a blowout loss on Friday. Bumgarner’s presence, though, would seem to suggest a rebound shortly. Most recently, he threw seven scoreless innings against the Dodgers, fanning 10 and invoking the ire of Yasiel Puig.
Andy Green, meanwhile, tabs Jarred Cosart for this assignment. The righty holds a 0-3 record with a 5.45 ERA in eight outings with San Diego. He’ll face San Francisco for the third time in his career.

Bumgarner’s a man on a mission here – in more ways than one. Not only is the perennial All-Star eyeing the aforementioned milestone, he’s on the verge of breaking Cy Seymour’s franchise record for most punchouts in a single season. No. 40 personifies the term ace, so don’t think twice about picking the second-place squad to prevail by a pretty comfortable margin in an important spot.
