Red Sox eye another beatdown of Orioles
After a difficult adjustment to the junior circuit, Drew Pomeranz is getting hot at exactly the right time.
Boston’s surging lefty takes on Baltimore tonight, with a 7:10 p.m. ET first pitch at Fenway Park. Online sports book BetDSI gives the Red Sox odds of -144 to prevail. Conversely, Buck Showalter’s club represents a +129 underdog. The over/under run figure holds steady at 9.5.
John Farrell’s crew ambushed the O’s in yesterday’s series opener, 12-2, behind homers from David Ortiz, Hanley Ramirez and Chris Young. Xander Bogaerts, Dustin Pedroia and Sandy Leon added three base knocks apiece for the class of the American League East. David Price won his seventh consecutive start, too.
Pomeranz has been nearly as good as Beantown’s ace over the last several weeks of action. The 27-year-old sports a 2-2 record with a 2.76 ERA since Aug. 4. AL batters are only hitting .233 off Pomeranz, whom general manager Mike Hazen acquired from San Diego at the trade deadline.

For the visitors, Dylan Bundy draws the nod. While other members of the Orioles’ rotation have faltered, the former top prospect continues to make a name for himself. Bundy’s 5-2 with a pristine WHIP in his past eight assignments. Most recently, however, the Rays reached him for five runs and seven hits in just 3 2/3 innings.
These two division rivals frequently engage in tight bouts, and we don’t expect anything different here. Opt for a low-scoring affair in advance of tomorrow’s mound pairing of Kevin Gausman and Rick Porcello.
