Hoffman is expected to be recalled to make a spot start Monday in Philadelphia. The Rockies need a starter after Wednesday’s rainout forced a doubleheader Thursday. Hoffman’s first spot start went pretty well, as he struck out eight while allowing three runs over 5 1/3 innings at Coors Field versus the Dodgers. The young right has put up a 3.46 ERA and 33/14 K/BB ratio over 39 frames at Triple-A Albuquerque. (Rotoworld)
Eickhoff fell to 0-4 after surrendering three runs — two earned — in six innings Tuesday against the Rangers. He struck out a season-high eight. Eickhoff opened the season with three straight quality starts, but this is his first in his last five tries. He’s been a hard-luck guy all season long in the run-support department, but he could also stand to pitch better; he has a 4.53 ERA right now.
