The Mariners got a little taste of King Felix again on Monday as Felix Hernandez pitched six innings of 1-run ball to earn his sixth victory of the season. Daniel Gossett took the loss, his 10th of the season, allowing seven runs over 4.1 innings. Mitch Haniger and Mike Zunino each drove in three runs to lead Seattle and both also homered in the win. Haniger had two home runs, giving him 16 for the season. Oakland’s lone run came on a solo home run from Marcus Semien.
Seattle has had Oakland’s number for a while, however I think the Athletics will buck the trend tonight. Paxton has struggled as of late and not been good against Oakland this season. In two starts, Paxton has allowed seven runs over 11.1 innings. Mengden hasn’t allowed a run over his last 16 innings and he faces a lineup that isn’t all that special.
