Struggling Sabathia tries to lift Yanks past O’s
Since the beginning of 2014, the Orioles are 19-6 at Camden Yards vs. the Yankees. Will that dominance continue this evening?
Roughly 20 hours after dismantling New York, 8-0, Baltimore confronts a familiar face on the mound. According to oddsmakers at online sports book Bovada.lv, Buck Showalter’s squad is a 1.5-run favorite to capture the second game of the series. The Bronx Bombers enter Emerald City as +115 underdogs.
Joe Girardi will send veteran CC Sabathia to the bump with the goal of neutralizing the host team’s torrid offense. The lefty certainly doesn’t lack for experience against the club, having gone 19-9 with a 3.35 ERA in his career vs. the O’s. Several of the franchise’s stalwarts, though, appear to flummox the former All-Star. Third baseman Manny Machado hits Sabathia at a .325 clip, while shortstop J.J. Hardy weighs in with a .343 mark in 35 at-bats.
On the pitching side, Showalter hopes for a quality outing from Kevin Gausman. The righty received slightly better run support in August, going 4-2 with a 2.45 ERA. Just last week, he tossed seven scoreless frames in the Orioles’ 5-0 triumph in New York.

The Yanks now find themselves 3 ½ games out of the second wild-card spot in the American League, as thoughts begin turn to the future and the development of the organization’s plethora of young talent. Yet Baltimore’s still pushing for an AL East crown. Expect the O’s to emerge from this slugfest with their 74th victory on the campaign.
