MLB Predictions Washington Nationals vs. New York Mets 9/3/16

High-flying Nats try to knock off Mets again

The Nationals completed August with a 17-11 record, second-best in the National League. September has started on a similarly positive note.

Dusty Baker’s troops eye their second consecutive triumph over the Mets tonight, with a 7:10 p.m. ET first pitch at Citi Field. Online sports book BetDSI gives the visiting club odds of -130 to come out on top, whereas New York is regarded as a +110 underdog. The over/under run figure rests at 7.5.

Bet on the Action

Not only does Washington seem primed to continue its run of success in Flushing, the squad gets to send Tanner Roark to the rubber. The righty ranks seventh in the senior circuit with a 2.87 ERA, with sparkling peripheral numbers to boot. Roark has allowed one run or fewer in five of his nine turns since the All-Star break. He’s also worked at least seven innings in 16 starts this season.

Terry Collins can’t quite ask the same of rookie hurler Robert Gsellman. The 23-year-old made his MLB debut last Sunday, surrendering four runs in six-plus frames in a 5-1 defeat to the Phillies. He’ll nonetheless try to prevent the Mets from falling 11 ½ games behind the Nats in the NL East race.

Washington clearly savors playing in the Big Apple, having gone 5-2 there in 2016. While Roark may encounter a little more trouble than usual this evening, it would be unwise to stray from Baker’s bunch. Take the Nationals in a relatively high-scoring affair.
