Latest on Tanaka via Rotoworld: Tanaka’s next scheduled start has been pushed back from Sunday to Monday. The Yankees will give the struggling right-hander an extra day to work on things. Tanaka holds a 6.55 ERA on the season and has surrendered a whopping 13 home runs over his last 34 innings. Candidates to start Sunday include Chad Green and Bryan Mitchell.
Meyer fanned nine batters and gave up one unearned run but still got stuck with a tough-luck loss against the Tigers on Wednesday. He hit Ian Kinsler with a pitch to lead off the third inning. Following an error by the third baseman, Kinsler scored on a double-play ball of the bat of Victor Martinez. That was all it took to stick Meyer with a loss on a day in which his teammates failed to score at all. Meyer gave up just three base hits (all singles) but did walk four batters while registering the nine punchouts. He falls to 2-3 with a 4.08 ERA after seven starts. He has 41 strikeouts and 24 walks in 35 1/3 innings.
Bet Tonight’s Yankees vs. Angels Game
OUR PREDICTION: The Yankees are winless in Tanaka’s last five starts and are 0-4 in his last four outings coming off five days of rest. On the other side, the Angels have won all five of Meyer’s last five outings coming off four days of rest. I just don’t trust Tanaka right now, even given how hot the Yankees have been. I see value in the Halos.
