From Rotoworld: Dickey allowed a run on three hits while striking out eight over seven innings in a 3-1 win over the Phillies on Thursday. Dickey kept the Phillies off-balance and off the board until the seventh inning, when an Odubel Herrera double and a Maikel Franco two-out single ended the shutout. His eight strikeouts were a season high for Dickey, who has just 40 strikeouts in 72 1/3 innings overall. The 42-year-old is 4-4 with a 4.73 ERA and 1.51 WHIP in 12 starts, and a date with the NL East-leading Nationals looms on Tuesday.
Ross fanned 12 Orioles over 7 1/3 innings, allowing a lone run in the Nationals’ 6-1 win Thursday. Ross scattered four hits and didn’t issue a walk in the dominant outing. It came just in time after he’d struggled mightily in his last two starts, leading Nats manager Dusty Baker to hedge on Ross’s rotation spot before ultimately deciding to start him again Thursday. The good outing likely bought Ross some more time to get it figured out, and to continue working on his 6.16 ERA in his seven starts. The problem with waiting for him to figure it out is that he’s so talented, and in such a good situation, that owners are hard-pressed not to start him while he’s working through it.
