MLB Predictions: Will Leake lead Cards to win vs. Pirates? 4/18/17

Pirates vs. Cardinals Prediction

Mike Leake has turned in two excellent starts but will he make it a third tonight when the Cardinals host the Pirates at 8:15PM ET?

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Cardinals -134 money line favorites tonight against the Pirates, who have odds of +121 to pull off the upset. With Chad Kuhl set to take on Leake in the pitching matchup, the over/under currently sits at 8 runs, down from the original number of 8.5.

Bet Tonight’s Pirates vs. Cardinals Game

PIRATES KEY TRENDS: The Pirates have lost eight of their last 11 road games and are just 8-20 in their last 28 games coming off a loss. They’re also 0-4 in Kuhl’s last four starts coming off four days of rest, are 1-5 in his last six outings coming off a team loss in their previous game, and are 1-4 in his last five starts against National League Central rivals.

CARDINALS KEY TRENDS: The Cardinals are just 2-5 in Leake’s last seven starts, are 1-4 in his last five outings versus a team with a losing record and are winless in his last five home starts. That said, the Cardinals are 5-1 in Leake’s last six starts when their opponent scores two runs or less in their previous game.

OUR PICK: Following their 2-1 loss last night, the Pirates are now 0-4 in their last four games against the Cardinals and are winless at 0-5 in their last five games in St. Louis. They’ll also embark on the next 80 games without outfielder Starling Marte, who was suspended for performance-enhancing drugs. The Cardinals haven’t had a ton of success winning with Leake on the mound, but he’s off to a great start and St. Louis is listed at a decent price tonight.
