Latest via Rotoworld: Garrett allowed two earned runs over six innings Wednesday in the Reds’ loss to the Padres. It was his best start in over a month, but the Reds’ bullpen stuck him with a no-decision. Garrett struck out eight batters and scattered seven hits over six solid frames, dropping his season ERA from 7.40 to 6.91 in the process. He’ll try to keep it working (and hope for some better support) in his next start on the road against the Rays.
Cobb allowed three runs — two earned — over 6 2/3 innings in a no-decision Thursday against the Tigers. Cobb yielded eight hits and walked two on the night, throwing a season-high 116 pitches before exiting. The Rays went on to lose, but after Cobb left the game, leaving his record at 5-5 through 14 starts. He’s got a 4.17 ERA and 1.39 WHIP in those 14 starts, as he continues to try to round into form in his first full season back from Tommy John surgery. Cobb draws an interleague assignment against the Reds in his next start on Tuesday.
