Hammel allowed five runs over six innings of work in Tuesday’s loss to the Yankees. The longball did him in, as Gary Sanchez smacked a three-run shot off of him in the second and Chris Carter popped a two-run blast in the third. Hammel didn’t record a single strikeout, walked one and gave up nine hits. Four out of Hammel’s last five starts have been pretty ugly. (Rotoworld)
Severino spun five innings of one-run ball in a no-decision against the Rays on Friday. Severino was pulled after throwing 89 pitches. He gave up five hits and walked three while striking out seven. Ideally he would have worked deeper into the game, but it was an encouraging showing after he struggled with his control while lasting just 2 1/3 innings in his last outing. The 23-year-old will carry a 3.64 ERA into tonight.
