Angels vs. Astros Pick
Can the Houston Astros put up enough runs against the Los Angeles Angels when the two meet up tonight at 8:10PM ET?
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, the Astros are the clear favorite in today’s game, as they are getting odds of -200 to win tonight. Los Angeles is listed with a money line of +160 to prevail. The over/under total for the game is set at 8.5 runs. These two have met seven times this season with Houston winning five of the seven games. They have pushed or hit the under in six of the seven games.

The pitching matchup for today’s game has Matt Shoemaker (5-3, 4.12 ERA) taking the mound for the Angels to face Brad Peacock (3-0, 2.30) of the Astros. Shoemaker has allowed 31 earned runs this season, but has given up just 9 over his last 5 starts. He has 63 strikeouts and 26 walks with a WHIP of 1.27. Peacock is set to make his fourth start. His first three have seen him pitch 15 innings combined, allowing six earned runs. For the season, he has 47 strikeouts and 14 walks over 31.1 innings. His WHIP is 0.96.
The Angels are coming off a series win at Detroit. They have hit the under in three of their last four games. Los Angeles is 31-32 overall, 13-20 on the road and 34-26 with the under. Los Angeles is putting up 4.11 runs per game while allowing 4.29. The Angels are still without Mike Trout, due to his hand injury. Albert Pujols is the current team leader with nine home runs and 43 RBI.
Houston is coming off a four-game split with the Royals in Kansas City. The Astros are now 43-18 overall, 20-10 at home and 30-25 with the over. Houston is averaging 5.52 runs per game while giving up 3.77. The Astros are being led by George Springer, who has 16 home runs with 38 RBI. Carlos Correa has added 11 home runs and 40 RBI while Jose Altuve has nine homers with 31 RBI and 11 stolen bases.
The Astros have been consistent throughout the year at putting up runs and holding opponents down. I think the Astros can put up some runs on Shoemaker, but he has been having improved starts of late. He can continue that tonight and keep the Astros at a respectable total. I see Los Angeles struggling on the road against Houston pitching. The Angels don’t have enough bats to get past this rotation and bullpen.
