The pitching matchup for today is listed as Ervin Santana (5-1, 1.72 ERA) on the mound for the Twins to face Josh Tomlin (2-3, 7.12) of the Twins. Santana is coming off his first loss of the season. He allowed six runs in six innings against the Red Sox. He still has a WHIP of just 0.79 with 37 strikeouts in 47 innings of work. Tomlin had his best outing of the season, allowing just one earned run in seven innings to the Royals. His WHIP is now 1.45.
Cleveland has won all three meetings with the Twins, all on the road. They come into tonight’s game 18-15 overall and 6-6 at home. The Indians are putting up 4.33 runs per game while allowing just 3.97. Jose Ramirez has led the team with six home runs, 24 RBI and a .298 batting average. Francisco Lindor has added eight home runs and 20 RBI with a .288 average.
The Twins are coming off back-to-back wins at Chicago. They are now 17-14 overall and 9-4 on the road. Minnesota is averaging 4.74 runs per game while allowing 4.81 defensively. Miguel Sano is leading the team with nine home runs, 29 RBI and a .304 average. Brian Dozier has added five home runs.
Santana had a bad outing against Boston, but he should still be able to limit the damage Cleveland does. While Tomlin had his best outing, that came against the Royals, who are the worst lineup in baseball. I think Minnesota should be able to get to Tomlin without much difficulty while Santana holds Cleveland in check.
