Pineda allowed three runs over 6 2/3 innings in a loss to the Astros on Thursday. Pineda struck out seven while allowing six hits and a walk. The loss was Pineda’s first since his season debut, and he still hasn’t given up more than three earned runs in a single start since that disastrous outing on April 5. The right-hander is now 3-2 with a 3.27 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 50/6 K/BB ratio over 41 1/3 innings. (Rotoworld)
Vargas pitched seven innings of three-hit ball in the Royals’ 6-0 win over the Rays on Thursday. Vargas has given up as many as 35 homers in a season, but this year, he’s surrendered just one in 44 2/3 innings. It’s encouraging what he’s done from a strikeout perspective, but the homers are going to begin to come; he is, after all, a flyball pitcher who throws 86 mph.
