Los Angeles won Game 1 by a count of 9-5 Friday night, while Arizona has still won seven of the last 10 meetings this season. Six of the 10 games have gone over the total.
Pitching for Arizona will be Robbie Ray (15-5, 2.89 ERA), while Los Angeles is going with Rich Hill (12-8, 3.32). Ray boasted a 1.15 WHIP with 218 strikeouts in 162 innings during the regular season. He last pitched in relief in the D-backs’ 11-8 home win over the Rockies in the NL Wild Card GAme Wednesday, allowing one earned run on two hits with three stirkeouts and no walks in 2 1/3 innings. Ray is 3-0 in five starts against the Dodgers this year as he has allowed nine runs (eight earned) on 14 hits with 53 strikeouts and 14 walks over 31 2/3 innings (2.27 ERA). He has a sparkling 1.86 ERA in 87 road innings this season. Hill has a 1.09 WHIP with 166 strikeouts over 135 2/3 innings. He threw seven two-hit shutout innings in a 10-0 home win over the Padres his last regular season start, striking out 10 and walking two. He has a 2.77 ERA in 78 home innings this year. He is 0-3 in four starts versus Arizona this season, having surrendered 11 earned runs on 17 hits with 24 strikeouts and four walks over 19 2/3 innings for a 5.04 ERA.
In Friday’s game, Justin Turner went 3-for-4 with a home run plus a walk and five RBIs to key the offense. Chris Taylor went 1-for-4 with two runs. Corey Seager finished 2-for-4 with a triple, a walk, three runs and two RBIs. Yasiel Puig was 2-for-5 with a double, a triple and two RBIs. Clayton Kershaw allowed four earned runs in 6 1/3 innings to earn the win. A.J. Pollock was 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk for the D-backs. J.D. Martinez went 3-for-4 with a solo home run. Ketel Marte went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored. Jeff Mathis was 1-for-3 with a solo home run.
Bet on Diamondbacks vs. Dodgers
Ray has been extremely tough on Los Angeles this season, a team that often struggles against left-handed pitching. The type of power arm Ray provides should limit the damage against him, while Arizona has seen Hill four times this year and been able to knock him around. Arizona has a potent offense even in pitcher’s ballparks such as Dodger Stadium as evidenced by getting to Kershaw for four runs last night. We like the D-backs to get it back to Arizona even at a game apiece.
