Velasquez homers in loss

Philadelphia lost by a score of 4-2 Friday night at Miami to drop to 43-39 overall and 16-22 on the road. Vince Velasquez helped his own cause by going 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs. He also took the loss on the mound as he surrendered four earned runs on six hits over 4 1/3 innings, striking out six and walking two. Maikel Franco finished 1-for-3 with a double and a run. Rhys Hoskins was 1-for-3 plus a walk. Jay Bruce ended the game 1-for-4 with a double. Zach Eflin will start today for the Phillies as he comes in with a 7-7 record, 3.26 ERA and 1.23 WHIP with 77 strikeouts over 91 innings.

Cooper, Anderson lead Marlins

Miami posted a 6-2 victory at home Friday night over Philadelphia to improve to 31-49 overall and 14-28 at home. Garrett Cooper helped lead the Marlins offense as he went 3-for-4 with a double, a run and two RBIs. Brian Anderson ended the contest 2-for-4 with a homer, a double and three RBIs. J.T. Riddle ended the game 1-for-3 with a solo home run. Elieser Hernandez suffered the loss as he gave up two earned runs on three hits with seven strikeouts and two walks over 5 2/3 innings. Jordan Yamamoto will start today for Miami as he enters with a 3-0 record, 0.95 ERA and 0.79 WHIP with 19 strikeouts over 19 innings.

MLB Betting Trends

Philadelphia

The Phillies are 5-2 in their last seven Saturday games. Philadelphia is 0-5 in its last five road games.

Miami

The Marlins are 1-4 in their last five home games. Miami is 16-36 in its last 52 games versus the NL East.

Prediction:

Yamamoto has had a remarkable start to his MLB career and he’ll face the Phillies for the second time in a week. But seeing a team for the second time didn’t hurt him in his first two MLB starts as he threw a total of 14 shutout innings against the Cardinals. I’m on board and love him today as an underdog. This should be a low-scoring game and I think the Marlins scratch across enough offense to support Yamamoto and get another win over Philly.
