Philadelphia Phillies vs. New York Mets 4/10/16 MLB Picks

Harvey, Mets hunt for redemption vs. Phils

Being the lone New York starter this season who has failed to finish six innings probably doesn’t sit well with Matt Harvey. Expect Philadelphia feel the brunt of his wrath today.

In the rubber match of a three-game set, Harvey’s Mets and the Phillies meet at 1:10 p.m. ET. Oddsmakers at online sports book Bovada.lv prefer the host team as a 1.5-run favorite. The over/under line, meanwhile, sits at 6.5 runs.

Harvey may be 6-1 with a 2.44 ERA in eight turns vs. the Phillies, but he failed to dazzle in the opener one week ago. New York’s No. 1 hurler surrendered four runs on eight hits in 5 2/3 frames of a 4-3 defeat to Kansas City. Citi Field typically brings the best out of him, though, as evidenced by a 1.55 ERA in his past 14 outings there.

Last night, Philadelphia prevented its worst start since 1934 by blanking the Mets. Veteran Jeremy Hellickson hopes to pick up where Vince Velasquez left off and take advantage of the defending NL East champs’ feeble offense thus far. New York holds just a .192 average, and cleanup man Yoenis Cespedes is buried in a 2-for-16 rut with no RBIs and seven strikeouts.

Third baseman David Wright should return to the lineup, however, after missing yesterday’s contest due to precautionary reasons. Between his established track record against Hellickson and Neil Walker’s continued fine work, the Mets don’t need an outright explosion with the lumber anyway. Harvey will take care of the rest.
