Phillies take opener
Philly took the series opener over the Mets on Friday, 7-2. The Phillies are 46-42 overall, 19-25 on the road and 44-41 with the under. Jake Arrieta is getting the start for the Phillies tonight. He is 8-6 on the season with a 4.43 ERA.
The Phillies stormed to the win on Friday thanks to a five-run ninth inning to break a 2-2 tie. The five runs came on four different hits. It was capped by a RBI single from Jean Segura, then a two-run double by Bryce Harper. J.T. Realmuto and Segura each had two hits in the win. Vince Velasquez got the start, allowing two runs over five innings of work. Adam Morgan got the win in relief.
Mets continue funk
New York has lost back-to-back games following Friday’s loss and the Mets have now dropped nine of their last 11 games. New York is now 39-49 overall, 22-18 at home and 45-33 with the over. The Mets have Noah Syndergaard on the mound today. He is 5-4 on the year with a 4.56 ERA.
Jacob deGrom had another great start, throwing seven innings and striking out 10, but didn’t factor into the decision. Edwin Diaz took his sixth loss of the year by allowing four runs in the ninth. At the plate, Pete Alonso continued his amazing season with his 29th home run and 66th RBI. He had two hits and two RBI in the loss.
MLB Betting Trends
Philadelphia
The Phillies are 3-8 in their last 11 road games and 2-7 in their last nine road games against a right-handed starter.
New York
The Mets are 2-5 in their last seven home games and 1-7 in their last eight games following a loss.
Prediction:
The Mets weren’t able to get a win despite a great start from their ace on Friday. Now they have Syndergaard on the mound, but he hasn’t been terribly strong this year. Arrieta hasn’t been his usual self either, but the Phillies have the hitting to like right now. Philadelphia has won six straight meetings with the Mets and I think they can make it seven behind Arrieta and their timely hitting.
MLB Prediction: Philadelphia Phillies +130
