Latest on Martinez from Rotoworld: Martinez picked up his first victory of the 2017 season on Friday, limiting the Tigers to one unearned run on four hits over his five frames. The right-hander walked one and struck out four on the night. With this strong effort added to his resume, he now sports a more respectable 4.33 ERA and 1.25 WHIP through 35 1/3 innings on the season.
Pomeranz gave up two runs — one earned — in four innings and took a no-decision against the Athletics on Saturday. Both runs came in the second inning when Pomeranz issued two walks followed by two infield singles. The game was tied when Pomeranz departed, but the Red Sox bullpen gave up five runs in the next inning. He was relieved early in his last start with triceps tightness but that does not appear to be the reason he was limited to only four innings today. He threw 97 pitches in today’s contest and simply wasn’t efficient enough with his pitches to go deeper into the game. He will take a 4.97 ERA and 1.47 WHIP into tonight’s matchup.
