Royals land Cueto, remain WS favorites
KANSAS CITY, MO (The Spread) – After making the first big trade of 2015, the Royals remain favored to win the 2015 World Series.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Royals are 6/1 to win the World Series and 3/1 to win the AL pennant, making them the odds favorites in both categories. Interestingly, neither their odds to win the World Series or AL pennant changed despite acquiring starter Johnny Cueto over the weekend.
The Royals landed Cueto in a trade with Cincinnati on Sunday, sending three prospects to the Reds in order to acquire the ace. In order to acquire Cueto, Kansas City parted with minor league left-handers Brandon Finnegan, John Lamb and Cody Reed. Cueto is currently 7-6 with a 2.62 ERA and a 0.93 WHIP.
After losing to the San Francisco Giants in Game 7 of the 2014 World Series, the Royals opened with 18/1 odds to win the 2015 Fall Classic. But they’ve proven to be one of the best teams in baseball over the first four months of the season and now they’re the current favorites to win it all this year. Trading for a proven ace in Cueto did nothing to change their favorable odds.
