Interleague rivals Kansas City, St. Louis meet
Tonight, one of the most highly anticipated interleague matchups of the year finally gets underway in Kansas City. Do the Cardinals have any hope of halting the Royals’ home dominance?
Adam Wainwright and Danny Duffy will initiate the 2016 installment of the I-70 series at 8:15 p.m. ET. According to online sports book BetDSI, the defending World Series champions represent 1.5-run favorites. Visiting St. Louis enters as a +120 underdog. The over/under run figure registers at eight.
Ned Yost’s club can seem downright invincible at Kauffman Stadium, as evidenced by that 26-10 record in front of the blue-and-white-clad faithful. Kansas City needed stellar pitching from Ian Kennedy and a multi-homer effort from Kendrys Morales yesterday, though, to snap a four-game losing skid with a 6-1 triumph over Houston. The designated hitter now boasts a .324 average in June.
Of course, the Redbirds put on their own gargantuan power display about 16 hours ago. Staving off a sweep in the Pacific Northwest, the Cards administered the Mariners an 11-6 beating. OPS machine Matt Carpenter slugged two homers, while Matt Holliday also went yard.

Wainwright would adore such support this evening. The three-time All-Star has thrown at least six frames and permitted three runs or fewer in his past seven outings. Duffy, on the other hand, continues to test Yost’s patience. Impressive strikeout figures notwithstanding, the lefty cannot point to a single seven-inning appearance this season.
By the same token, the Royals enjoy a decided bullpen edge at the moment. Trevor Rosenthal’s self-destructive tendencies on the other side suddenly force Mike Matheny to choose between Kevin Siegrist and Seung-Hwan Oh to temporarily convert the Cardinals’ save chances. Nonetheless, solving Wainwright won’t be a simply task for the AL Central stalwarts. Bank on St. Louis to keep matters very tight here.
