Hyun-Jin Ryu (5-8, 3.47 ERA) will be on the mound for Los Angeles, while Colorado counters with Chad Bettis (1-4, 5.72). Ryu has a 1.33 WHIP with 115 strikeouts in 124 2/3 innings. He allowed one earned run on three hits with one strikeout and no walks over 2 1/3 innings his last start, a 2-1 home loss to the Giants. Ryu holds a 3.45 ERA in 12 road starts. Bettis has a 1.47 WHIP with 26 strikeouts in 39 1/3 innings. He surrendered one earned run on seven hits with three strikeouts and two walks in 4 2/3 innings his last outing a 5-0 loss at the Padres. Bettis holds a 4.07 ERA in 24 1/3 home innings.
The Dodgers enter at 102-57 overall and 45-33 on the road, while the Rockies are 86-73 and 45-33 at home. The last 10 games between the two teams are split 5-5 with the Rockies winning the last four meetings. The total has gone over in five straight games and in six of the last 10.
Los Angeles has won four games in a row including a 10-0 shellacking at home over the Padres Wednesday night. Rich Hill gave up two hits and struck out 10 over seven innings to notch the win. Curtis Granderson was 2-for-3 off the bench with a home run, a walk and two runs scored to lead the way. Corey Seager was 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk and two runs. Austin Barnes finished 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and two RBIs. Yasiel Puig went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Colorado secured a 15-9 home shootout victory over the Marlins Wednesday afternoon. Charlie Blackmon was 3-for-6 with a run and three RBIs. D.J. LeMahieu went 2-for-5 with a run. Nolan Arenado drew two walks and scored a run. Trevor Story finished 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and four RBIs. Ian Desmond ended the game 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs and four RBIs. Carlos Gonzalez was 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and two RBIs. Jon Gray gave up three runs in six innings to get the win.
Colorado runs into a tough series with the Dodgers in order to secure its NL Wild Card berth. Los Angeles might rest some players this weekend, but the ultimate goal is to head into the postseason with players not only feeling fresh but also on top of their game. And the Dodgers would certainly enjoy keeping an NL West foe out of the postseason if possible. Of course with the Rockies holding a two-game lead over the Brewers, it would all hinge on Milwaukee winning games too. We give the edge to Ryu over Bettis here, while the Dodgers offense should be able to rack up some runs hitting at Coors Field.
