(The Spread) – The Sprint Cup Series heads to Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Sunday for the Kobalt Tools 400, which is always a favorite stop for both drivers and fans.

Ever since it was repaved and reshaped, the changes have definitely improved the racing action and shifted the balance of power as well. Las Vegas is nothing like it was prior to 2008 and some drivers and teams just haven’t adapted to it yet. Of the 13 races held in Vegas, a Roush driver has won six of them. Five were won under the old, flatter configuration of the track with only Edwards winning on the new higher banked layout in 2008.
Las Vegas can be a tough track to predict even in a normal year. But throw in the resurgence of Richard Childress Racing and Rousch Racing and we could very well see a driver in the winner’s circle on Sunday that we haven’t seen in sometime.
Matt Kenseth 25/1
Don’t let the odds scare you away – this is one of Kenseth’s best tracks. Though his results haven’t been great since the makeover, he’s run better than his results suggest. Last year’s fifth place finish was one of his best results in a down year for him and everyone at Rousch. In his last eight starts here, Kenseth has two wins and six top-10s, as well as a very good average finish of 11.7. So far, the Rousch drivers have looked fast but have been unlucky due to getting caught up in other drivers’ accidents. But we think that will change this week and he’s being offered at a very nice price so jump on him.
Jeff Burton 25/1
Jeff Burton returns to one of his favorite tracks and the new layout hasn’t seemed to faze him at all. His 9.9 average finish at Las Vegas is the best among active drivers and he has posted two top-five finishes since the track was reconfigured. All of the cars from Richard Childress have been fast this year and a return to one of his favorite tracks should encourage bettors to take advantage of his price.
Live Longshot:
Since we like two drivers at 25/1 we’ll pass on trying to find a long shot this week.
