Mid-Ohio Challenge Picks
The NASCAR Xfinity Series is back in action later today with the Mid-Ohio Challenge. Here’s a look at the drivers we like to contend for the win.
According to the latest oddsmakers, Sam Hornish Jr. is favored to win this race with 2/1 odds. Other short odds to win are Justin Marks (7/2), JD Davison (7/1) and Justin Allgaier (7/1). The Mid-Ohio Challenge takes places today at 3:30PM ET from Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.
Justin Marks hasn’t had many reasons to get excited in NASCAR, but going to Mid-Ohio is one of them. This site a year ago was his only victory in the series in his career. It was also his only top-10 finish of 2016 in 17 races. Marks hasn’t competed this year, but is back to defend his title today. This has been his best course, as he also finished sixth in 2014. Look for Marks to make another run at the win today.
William Byron is listed with 17/2 odds today. I like those odds for a promising young driver that has finished in the top 10 of his last seven races. Oddsmakers may not like Byron because this is a road course, but he still has competed well at road courses. Byron was 10th at Watkins Glenn and I think he continues his set of strong runs. Byron has what it takes to be a special driver, no matter the course type.
Regan Smith is the 2015 winner of this race and he has 12/1 odds today. Smith has yet to compete in the series this year, but he typically does well when he does. His last full year was 2015, where he had a pair of wins and finishing in the top 10 in his last 13 races. As a former winner at Mid-Ohio, I expect Smith to be right in the mix to win today. His long odds give him great value.
