Golden State claimed its second championship in two years on Monday night by defeating the Cavs in five games in the 2017 NBA Finals. The Warriors have a great core locked in as Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green will all be back next season to try and complete a repeat championship.
The Cavs lost in the Finals, winning the East for the third straight season. LeBron James had a great series, averaging a triple-double, but he didn’t have enough accompanying firepower to battle this Golden State team. Should the Cavs win the title next season, they likely will need to add some pieces. Their issue is money, as their cap space is limited.
The Spurs lost in the Western Conference finals, but had Kawhi Leonard get injured in Game 1 of the series, leaving them without much chance to compete. There is already talk of the Spurs adding a point guard like Chris Paul or Derrick Rose in the offseason. Manu Ginobili could be retiring, but his contributions were getting more and more limited.
The Boston Celtics had the best record in the Eastern Conference this season, but they fell to the Cavs in the conference finals after losing star Isaiah Thomas to an injury in the series. Boston has a lot of young, hungry talent and the Celtics also have the No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft this year.
