Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers from online sportsbook BetNow.eu, the Heat are 2-point favorites to beat the Pistons. The total, meanwhile, sits at 209.5 points and as of this writing, 62% of the public betting tickets wagered at online sportsbooks are on the Heat to cover the point spread.
Detroit Pistons Fantasy Spin
Blake Griffin was limited by the Nets to ten points (1-of-10 FGs, 7-of-8 FTs), seven rebounds, six assists, one steal and one three-pointer in 26 minutes Monday night. After feasting on the Bulls in consecutive games, Griffin ran into more resistance Monday night as he and the Pistons were blown out by the Nets. He didn’t play much in the final quarter due to the margin, finishing well off of his averages in two prior games against the Nets this season (25.5 ppg, 8.5 rpg and 5.0 apg). Griffin’s ranked just outside of the top-50 in nine-category leagues this season, so Monday’s effort is not the norm. Look for him to bounce back when the Pistons return to action Wednesday in Miami.
Miami Heat Fantasy Spin
Bam Adebayo scored a team-high 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting Sunday, to go with six rebounds, five assists, two steals and one turnover in 28 minutes. Adebayo knocked down all three of his freebies to give him a sterling 77.1 true shooting percentage on the evening, and while the Heat snapped a four-game winning streak in what was a brutal loss, it’s tough to blame Adebayo for what happened — so he should remain a starter. On another note, he threw up a not-so-great alley-oop pass to Derrick Jones Jr., who threw it down in phenomenal fashion, and that play can be viewed in the link below.
NBA Betting Trends
Detroit
The Pistons are 7-1 against the spread in their last eight games when their opponent scores 100 points or more in their previous contest.
Miami
The Heat are 5-2 against the number in their last seven games when their opponent allows 100 points or more in their previous game.
Prediction
I whiffed badly on the Pistons on Monday night when they were shelled by the Nets in Brooklyn. The only good thing to come out of that dreadful performance is that Detroit was being beaten so badly that the team wound up resting starters in the fourth quarter. I do expect the Pistons to bounce back to tonight and I do believe they’re a better team than Miami. The Heat are 3-8 against the spread in their last 11 home games and are 0-4 against the number in their last four games coming off a double-digit loss at home. The Pistons, meanwhile, are 5-1 against the spread in their last six games overall, with their lone ATS loss coming in that defeat in Brooklyn.
