Clippers struggle on the road
While maybe not a strenuous road game, the Clippers are still the road team today. They are coming off a 118-112 loss at Oklahoma City before the holiday. They have lost three of their last five coming into today. Los Angeles is 22-10 on the season, 8-8 on the road, 18-14 against the spread and 17-15 with the under.
Los Angeles is putting up 115.7 points per game on offense this year while shooting 46.3 percent from the field and 36.3 percent from the arc. Defensively, the Clippers are giving up 108.6 points per game while opponents shoot 43.3 percent from the floor. Kawhi Leonard has been leading the Clips with 25.5 points, 7.8 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game. He’s dealing with a knee injury that lists him as questionable tonight, but expectations are that he will play. Paul George is adding 24.2 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists per contest.
Lakers on a skid
Los Angeles is coming off a 128-104 loss at home to the Nuggets for a third consecutive loss. The Lakers had been short-handed in those games, but are expecting a full roster tonight. Los Angeles is 24-6 on the season, 10-3 at home, 16-14 against the spread and 17-13 with the under.
The Lakers are putting up 112.3 points per game on offense this season while shooting 48.4 percent as a team. Defensively, Los Angeles is holding opponents to 104.9 points per game while keeping opponents to 43.9 percent from the field. LeBron James is averaging 25.8 points, 10.6 assists and 7.5 rebounds per game. Anthony Davis is adding 27.9 points, 9.4 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game.
NBA Betting Trends
L.A. Clippers
The Rockets are just 2-6 against the spread in their last eight games as a favorite, but 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games against a team with a winning percentage below .400.
L.A. Lakers
The Warriors are 17-36-1 against the spread in their last 54 home games and 11-29-1 ATS in their last 41 games following a win.
Prediction:
The Clippers are won the first meeting this season, a 112-102 win as the home team back on Oct. 22. These two teams have improved a lot since then with the Clippers getting George into the mix and the Lakers getting more comfortable with each other. Though it’s not a big road game, it’s still going to be a road atmosphere for the Clippers in a primetime ABC matchup. The Lakers, especially LeBron, will be motivated to have a statement win, especially with the team coming off a losing streak. The Lakers at full strength have shown that they can be title contenders. The Clippers are just .500 on the road, so I can’t trust them to be the better team tonight.
