The Warriors took a commanding 3-0 lead in the series on Wednesday night thanks to a 118-113 win at Cleveland in Game 3. Golden State has covered the spread in all three games of this series and are 15-0 in the playoffs straight up. The Warriors are now 82-15 overall, 38-10 on the road and 51-43-3 against the spread while Cleveland is 63-35 overall, 36-12 at home and 44-50-4 against the spread.
Cleveland put up its best fight of the series thus far on Wednesday night, but it still wasn’t enough. The Cavs led 113-107 with 3:09 to play, but the Warriors took over from there as Cleveland ran out of gas. Kevin Durant made a huge 3-pointer with 45 seconds to play to put the Warriors up and then hit a pair of free throws with 12 seconds left. Andre Iguodala blocked a game-tying 3-point attempt from LeBron James on the next play. Durant finished with 31 points and eight rebounds to stay ahead in the Finals MVP race. Stephen Curry added 26 points with 13 rebounds while Klay Thompson had 30 points. James finished with 39 points, 11 rebounds and 9 assists while Kyrie Irving had 38 points with six rebounds.
The series seems over. Golden State appears to have this locked up, but the question is will the Cavs find a way to take Game 4 and avoid the sweep? With just 1 day off between Games 3 and 4, I think that really favors Golden State. We have seen the Cavs tail off in the second half of each game of this series. It just took longer at home. However, it is likely to come faster tonight with the short break. Golden State will take this game seriously for two reasons. First, they want to go 16-0 in the playoffs as a sign of greatness. Second, they will want to celebrate at Cleveland like the Cavs did last year in Golden State.
