Mustangs keep galloping through league
No. 19 SMU has built up quite the impressive resume as of late. Will Tim Jankovich’s bunch be able to keep the magic going as Tulane hits town tonight?
The two American Athletic Conference outfits collide at 9 p.m. ET in the Lone Star State. Online sports book Bovada.lv gives the host Mustangs odds of -1100 to emerge victorious. Conversely, the Green Wave represent +3000 underdogs.
Coming off a 60-51 defeat of Cincinnati over the weekend, SMU’s eager to build on its half-game lead for first place in conference action. The lone potential stumbling block: Jankovich leaned on only six players against the Bearcats. Reserve guard Dashawn McDowell’s concussion-related absence currently puts even more pressure on leading scorer Semi Ojeleye. The junior forward followed up a 30-point effort at Temple by burning Cincy for 18.
At Tulane, meanwhile, things couldn’t get much worse. Most recently, Houston sent Mike Dunleavy’s squad to its eighth consecutive loss and 13th in the past 14 contests. The Green Wave consistently get annihilated in the paint, too, with 6-foot-7 junior Cameron Reynolds providing the only bit of resistance on most occasions.

SMU has been borderline invincible since a 66-64 squeaker vs. Cincinnati on Jan. 12. The Mustangs certainly shouldn’t worry about an uprising here, but we’re interested to see how they handle being such heavy favorites. After all, this’ll be par for the course as AAC action winds down.
