Purdue vs. Rutgers Pick
Can No. 3 Purdue go on the road and pick up a lopsided victory over Rutgers when the two meet up today at 4PM ET?
According to oddsmakers at YouWager, Purdue is heavily favored tonight, as the Boilermakers are getting odds of -16 points against Rutgers. The over/under total has been set at 132 points. Today’s game is taking place from Louis Brown Athletic Center in Piscataway, New Jersey and will air live on the Big Ten Network.
Purdue extended its win streak to 18 games with a 75-67 win over Maryland at home this week. The Boilermakers have failed to cover in three straight and are now 14-9 against the spread this season. Purdue is 22-2 overall and 11-0 in the Big Ten. The Boilers are averaging 84.2 points per game this season while allowing 63.7 per contest. Carsen Edwards is averaging 16.7 points per game on offense while Vincent Edwards is adding 15.4 points and 7.8 rebounds per contest.
Rutgers has lost four straight, including a 91-60 loss at Illinois this week. The Knights are now 12-12 overall, 2-9 in the Big Ten and 8-8 against the spread. They have failed to cover in any of their last four games. The Knights are averaging 65.2 points per game on offense while allowing 64.3 per contest on defense. Corey Sanders is leading Rutgers this season with 13.5 points per game while Deshawn Freeman is adding 11.2 points and 7.4 rebounds per contest.
Purdue has won five straight meetings with Rutgers, covering the spread in four of the five games. That includes an 82-51 win at home back on Jan. 3. Purdue has failed to cover in its last three games, but they were still winning by multiple possessions. Rutgers hasn’t been able to compete over recent weeks, including losses at home to Nebraska and Ohio State where it failed to cover. Purdue is just far superior in my eyes and I expect the Boilermakers will show that on the court. The public betting is nearly split on this one, but I will take Purdue minus the points.
