ESPN ranks Grayson Allen as top player, Duke 15/2 to win title 6/5/17

Allen ranked No. 1 for 2017-18

ESPN has released its top players ranking for the 2017-18 season and the Duke Blue Devils are listed with the No. 1 guy. How does it impact their odds to win the NCAA Tournament?

ESPN Insider John Gasaway released his top 25 players for next season and Grayson Allen was listed at No. 1 as he gets set to enter his senior season. Allen took a step back last year, as he averaged 21.6 points per game as a sophomore. This past season, the junior averaged just 14.5points per game while shooting only 39.5 percent from the field.

According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Allen’s Blue Devils are the co-favorite to win the 2018 NCAA Tournament with Michigan State. Both teams are currently listed 15/2 odds. Other short odds to win are Arizona (9/1) and Kentucky (10/1).

Allen had a lot of issues during the season, getting himself suspended for tripping more players. He was somewhat lost in the shuffle of talented freshmen and underclassmen that Duke had. To go with his 14.5 points per game, Allen also had 3.7 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. Both numbers were lower than they were the year before.

To go along with Allen, Duke also has the No. 10-ranked player in Wendell Carter and the 14th-ranked player in Trevon Duval. Carter is a 6-foot-10 freshman that should be one of the top players in the nation due to his size and athleticism. Duval is another freshman that is a true point guard that should be able to spread the ball around to all of the Blue Devils’ talent.
